Substance Abuse Counselor & Supervisor
James Bustamante’s main job is to provide a safe, positive, and therapeutic experience for all clients through supervising the counselors that are directly working with clients. His biggest wish is for clients in recovery to discover self-awareness, live a positive, productive lifestyle, and ultimately develop a passion for being a positive person in society. He is a certified substance-abuse counselor through the State of Hawaii Department of Health.
James called California his home before moving to Hawaii in 1993, which he describes as the most life-changing experience. Prior to working at The Exclusive Hawaii Rehab, he has worked in various inpatient and outpatient treatment modalities with both adolescents and adults. He also has extensive experience working with dual diagnosis patients.
Besides having a true desire to impact people’s lives positively, James’ own personal experiences have led him to working in addiction rehabilitation. His mother passed away from a disease contracted during her addiction after 14 years of recovery and is a painful reminder that choices made in addiction can impact a life forever.
Many would describe James as loyal, friendly, and ambitious. When asked what color in a crayon box he would be, he chose Sky Blue, because it represents clarity and joy. He spends his time off from work enjoying reading self-help and personal development books, as well as exercising and swimming. He continues to live by the lesson his parents instilled in him to be positive and not complain.
